KHULA EDUCATION is delighted to announce its first participation in the Royal Parks Half Marathon, Presented by the Royal Bank of Canada.

The race takes place on  Sunday 8 October 2017.

This stunning central London half marathon, takes in the capital’s world-famous landmarks on closed roads, and four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.

KHULA EDUCATION is extremely grateful to Phillip Lagerwall and Georgie Lezcano who are taking part to raise vital funds for the expansion of our Pre School. Their efforts will ensure that 3 and 4 year olds in the most rural parts of South Africa have an opportunity to attend a Pre School, vital for their development and future school success.

Georgie Lezcano

Georgie Lezcano Raining Money for KhulaI am running for KHULA EDUCATION because I believe in a society where everyone has equal opportunities to achieve their goals and dreams. I’ve visited South Africa several times, and whilst I think its a beautiful country with many kind people it’s riddled with poverty and inequality. Once I learned that KHULA EDUCATION’s goal was to reduce inequality in South Africa by promoting and working  for better education in the country, I decided that it was a charity worth running for. I really like their pre-school campaign which aims to give youngest children from poorer backgrounds a better opportunity to succeed by teaching them what is needed both in English and their local language. I hope that with my run I can help KHULA EDUCATION and in particular the children they support to have a better future.

Phillip Lagerwall

Phillip Laerwall -Running to raise money for KhulaI grew up in a small Kwa-Zulu Natal town in South Africa called Greytown where many children in the surrounding rural areas don’t have access to basic early education, and as a result the cycle of poverty is an awful reality. I believe that education is one of the key areas that can radically and positively change people’s lives. Because of this, I’ve decided to raise funds for KHULA EDUCATION – a small grassroots charity that’s working hard to create more opportunities for underprivileged children to access education, particularly in their early years of development in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Being able to raise funds for a charity doing work so close to home provides huge motivation for me in training and I hope to be able to impact the lives of my fellow South Africans in a meaningful way.
