KHULA has a team of 23 vibrant staff supporting our teaching programmes. We have strong relationships with the circuit managers, principals, management teams and class teachers at our partner schools. We work as a team to support the 6000 children in our programmes.

Debbie has 20 years’ experience in leadership, strategic management, human resource development and fundraising in the higher education and health service community in South Africa. She joined KHULA Education in October 2018. Debbie believes that more needs to be done to strengthen, enrich and diversify educational opportunities for children in South Africa if it is to achieve a truly transformed society. Working with the KHULA teams in South Africa and the United Kingdom she aims to shape and grow KHULA’s educational programmes. She is responsible for brokering new partnerships and developing strategies to help KHULA reach its full potential and remain relevant in the complex and ever-changing educational environment in South Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science Degree and an Industrial Relations Diploma from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Nothile grew up in KwaZulu-Natal and holds an Economics degree and a Certificate in Project Management. She believes that education is a huge part of the solution to many socio-economic problems faced by our country today. She is eager and excited to do all she possibly can to ensure that KHULA Education achieves its objective of quality education for the children of this isolated area of the province.
Hannah joined KHULA Education in January 2021 to lead their Philanthropy, Partnerships and Communications from the UK. She had previously been working in the marketing and communications world, at various agencies across the WPP Group in both the USA and UK. She is passionate about working alongside the Board, Management team and staff to continue KHULA's great work to date and grow its impact and reach.
Slindokuhle attended one of KHULA Education’s partner schools, Amoibe Primary. She has a Management Assistant Diploma and a Certificate in Human Resource Management Practice and Support. She anchors KHULA Education’s Human Resource administration and finances. Slindo is well known to all the schools with which we partner. She is committed to working towards empowering the children through education and changing the lives of the Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana Community for the better.
Denver is an educational professional with 16 years’ experience in the field. He holds a Diploma in Secondary Education from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences Degree from UNISA. He is currently studying through UNISA towards his Honours in Accounting. He believes in levelling the playing field for learners by affording them access to educational opportunities from which their rural background usually excludes them. He is committed, dedicated and fully supportive of KHULA Education’s vision.
Christopher is a qualified Mathematics Teacher with 26 years of experience, most of which has focused on education of rural school children. He holds a Diploma in Education from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Education (Senior and FET Phase) from UNISA. Chris is a passionate, patient and hardworking individual who believes every learner has the ability to enjoy and pass Mathematics. He is committed to empowering the children of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana with Mathematical skills that are relevant for life and future academic pursuits so that these learners can become successful future breadwinners for their families.
Mdu officially joined the KHULA staff in January 2020 as a peer mentor and intern. He attended primary and high school in Rorke’s Drift where he benefitted from KHULA’s supplementary teaching programme. Through dedication and hard work, he excelled at school and with KHULA’s support, was offered a Madrihna scholarship to study further. He recently graduated with an honours degree in Computer Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is a local hero!
Zinhle joined KHULA in October 2019. She is a qualified educator with 22 years of experience in teaching and managing the Foundation Phase (Grades R to 3). She holds a Diploma in Teaching and an Advanced Certificate in Management and Inclusive Education. She believes in making learning fun for children and she motivates them to do well especially in Mathematics and English.
Sibongile joined KHULA in January 2020. She holds a Diploma in Teaching and an Advanced Certificate in Education Management. She has worked as a Primary School Teacher for 25 years. Her strong belief in education pushes her to creatively mould and properly develop young minds.
Anwen joined the KHULA team in July 2019. She runs a private Educational Psychology practice, has worked for many years in remedial schools and continues to consult with children in mainstream education. The challenge of addressing learning in a second language has been a consistent interest of hers. Anwen believes that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping children. Educators who show care for their learners can increase their resilience, a significant contribution to uplifting a community. Anwen holds a Master of Social Science degree in Educational Psychology. Her postgraduate research paper focused on the psychological stress of students from rural Eastern Cape attending Rhodes University.
Dorren has worked as a teacher for more than 20 years. She taught and gained experience in a number of schools in Gauteng Province before joining KHULA Education. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from UNISA and Diploma in Education from the University of Zimbabwe. Her love for children shines through in her teaching. We can rely on her to give children a firm foundation that will carry them through their schooling years and on to success in life beyond school.
Zanele has a Certificate in Early Childhood Development from iKusasa Lothisha College. She started work as a KHULA volunteer at Oscarsberg Primary, our partner school, before joining the KHULA pre-school team. She is passionate about child-care and development. Her wisdom, experience and compassion for children with disabilities shines through in her teaching.
Nozipho completed her Diploma in Foundation Phase Teaching in 2019. She also holds a Diploma in Management Assistance and a Higher Certificate in Adult Basic Education and Training. Her passion for learning inspires her to teach. She believes that all children have the ability to achieve, they simply need teachers who are motivated to teach well.
Xoliswa is from Tholeni near Ladysmith. Xoliswa has a Diploma in Grade R Teaching from Lyceum College. She is an experienced educator, administrator and has also volunteered as community radio announcer! She has a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and believes that in life you have to step forward to grow and challenge yourself. It’s therefore not surprising that Xoliswa was our first teacher at Magaga Pre-School.
Thoko is well known to the community being a graduate of two of KHULA’s partner schools – Oscarsberg Primary and Shiyane High School. She has a National Certificate in Early Childhood Development (NQF Level 5) from Bona Fide College. Her aim is to ensure that both urban and rural learners receive equal educational opportunities.
Minenhle joined our team in early 2019 after completing her National Diploma in Educare at Springfield FET College. She has found her niche working with and preparing our young children so that they can graduate to formal schooling.
Minenhle joined KHULA in January 2020. She holds a National Diploma in Educare from Central Technical College. She says all children are unique with special qualities that can be nurtured. She aims to do exactly that, nurturing young minds.
After completing her Early Childhood Development certificate at Manaye Centre in Pietermaritzburg, Sthembile worked as a general teaching assistant until she joined KHULA as an assistant teacher in 2015. She has a passion for helping young children – especially those from rural areas. From January 2021 she will be the head teacher at KHULA'S satellite preschool at Amoibe.
Sindisiwe is from Nquthu area. She obtained her National Diploma of Educare from Central Technical College as well as 18 months practical work experience in Grade R before joining KHULA in 2019. Her philosophy in life is to strive for success in everything she does.
Nontobeko grew up in the Isandlwana area and went to local schools supported by KHULA Education. She has Certificates in Civil Engineering as well as Child and Youth Care Services. She is currently completing her final year of a Foundation Phase Diploma. Early in her career she discovered her passion was to educate young children. Nontobeko knows that success belongs to those who refuse to be defeated by failure.
Khanyisile lives in Nquthu Area. She has a National Diploma in Educare from Innovatus College. Her commitment to educate the community led her to volunteer for a local community creche prior to joining KHULA. She is eager to encourage her community to find value in education.
Pam worked for many years as a Teacher’s Assistant at Oscarsberg Primary School before joining the KHULA Isisekelo team at Rorke’s Drift. She is a mature, competent person who takes pride in nurturing the children in her care.
Thuli is a quiet and diligent young woman who joined KHULA Education a few years ago as our housekeeper. She is responsible for the cleaning and set up of our Rorke’s Drift Pre-School and Resource Centre teaching facility.
Lindelihle joined KHULA’s pre-school team in early 2019. Our children look forward to her lovingly prepared hot meals each morning and lunch time. She also helps with the set up and cleaning of our pre-school classrooms.
